The Virginia Sheep Producers Association was formed to carry out the following purposes:
- Carry on educational and promotional work in connection with the production and sale of commercial sheep, purebred sheep, and wool in Virginia and the mid-Atlantic region
- Aid the sheep industry however possible in conducting educational and promotional work in connection with sheep production and marketing
- To stimulate interest among 4-H, FFA, and other youth groups in good commercial and purebred sheep, and educate all youth on the appropriate husbandry practices applied for the general well-being of sheep
